Rotterdam is the biggest port in the Netherlands. It is also one of the biggest in the world. The river Maas runs straight through the city, to the sea in the west. Rotterdam has a lot of modern buildings. Much of its centre was bombed during the Second World War. Reconstruction started immediately after the war.
